Summary

We are looking for a dynamic Human Resources Manager to join our Strathcona, ON facility. As our Human Resources Manager, you will manage day-to-day human resource activities in a unionized setting as well as be a strategic consultative partner to the management team. This role is paramount in the promotion of our company culture and values, execution of our people initiatives, internal customer partnership and support, driving HR functional excellence, and process improvement in a location with 150+ team members.

Responsibilities

How you will impact PaperWorks:

  • Strategic Thinking: Develop short and long-term courses of action that support the company’s overall vision and purpose; balance business, technical, and operational issues when determining a strategy;identify problems with current strategies and suggests ways to resolve them; incorporate knowledge of company goals/strategy as well as competitive, customer, supplier, industry, or marketplace trends into strategic plans; capitalize on opportunities and manages risks.
  • Communication: Develop new communication strategies and approaches to communicate data,insights, and critical messages resulting in clear understanding; create and deliver engaging presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Leadership: Lead and motivate people to achieve performance excellence; ability to read people and situations and adjust accordingly; proactively lead and implement initiatives that drive organizational effectiveness; guide others to build trust-based relationships.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with others to complete a task or achieve a common objective; ability to cooperate in both interpersonal and team relationships to foster enthusiasm and maintain mutual trust, candor, and respect for others. Work through conflict constructively.
  • Problem-Solving: Apply knowledge to frame, simplify and solve complex problems; focus on identifying root causes to create solutions in a timely and decisive manner; actively leverage technology, data and analytics to develop fact based, predictive solutions; reconcile conflicting and/or incomplete information to develop solutions.
  • Coaching: Provide people with tools, knowledge, and opportunities to develop themselves; assist with identifying team member training needs, work with team members to produce continuous development plans, and provide regular feedback and coaching to help team members develop in current and future roles; visibly support and motivate teams.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed:

  • Degree or diploma in human resources management, industrial relations or business administration. Certification as a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) is preferred.
  • 10 years of human resources experience inclusive of 3-5 years managerial experience, preferably in a unionized industrial setting.
  • Meaningful technical experience with HR technology, data and analytics, and proficiency in the latest HR practices and concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of labour and employment legislation and standards related to human resources and collective bargaining.
  • Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in taking ownership and initiative of responsibilities and executing them to meet business needs and deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills to build relationships and engage with team members.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, including executive management, and successfully advance culture initiatives.
  • An eye towards continuous process improvement, including the ability to innovate and simplify processes with a positive attitude!
